Legal Action Against 2UE
2UE APOLOGY - AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GLBT COMMUNITY
Read entire apology - SX - April 9. 2009
The NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal found that Mr Laws' comments amounted to vilification in that they were capable of inciting severe ridicule of homosexual men. The NSW Anti-Discrimination Act sets limits on what can be said in public.
2UE has given its assurance to Community Action Against Homophobia (CAAH) that it will take every precaution to ensure that there is no repeat of this type of vilification in the future.
2UE Regrets any hurt that the queer community felt as a result of the broadcast, and any harm that these comments may have caused. It abhors and condemns any act of violence against people based on their sexuality and take seriously its responsibilities as a broadcaster in this regard.
* The 2UE Apology was published in SX and the Sydney Star Observer.
