Sydney NDA for Same-Sex Marriage
This year we plan to gather at Town Hall at 12pm then march to the National Labor Conference, being held at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour - where alongside our Melbourne brothers and sisters, we will stage the nation's largest 'illegal' same-sex wedding!
Chances are your relationships won't be formally recognised on the day, and you'll still be considered a second-class citizen long after you've consumated your marriage... so, what the hell... grab your partner, shine your ring, and invite your friends - we're getting hitched!
Stay tuned...

Hitching to get married
SSO Soap Box - Phil Scott - Tuesday, 21 July 2009
On August 1 my partner and I will be milling, loitering and woolgathering for same-sex marriage. It’s not that we wish to get married; at least I don’t think so. Acting like an old married couple, we haven’t discussed it. But we want you to get hitched, if that’s what you’d like.
And we want the Labor Party Conference to be aware of our opinion.
Some people believe same-sex marriage (yes, that specific term) should be the final thing gays and lesbians achieve for full equality. The last frontier! I think that’s the wrong way around. Once we have the right to marry, other related areas of inequality will disappear. Let’s go for the big one now and let the fiddly details sort themselves out later.

Gay activist Veterans Join August 1st Action
PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - July 20, 2009
Veteran gay rights campaigners and 78'ers Mannie De Saxe and Kendall Lovett will join the Sydney demonstration on August 1st.
De Saxe and Lovett, who also founded the SPAIDS planting at the Sydney Park AIDS Memorial Grove and Gay and Lesbian Solidarity, have come to Sydney to send a clear message to the Rudd Labor government.
De Saxe stated:
‘Our main reason for wanting to have same-sex marriages legalised is because partial equality is not equality, and until we get same-sex marriage legalised we will still be discriminated against. We are participating because we want to show what a mockery this government's same-sex legislation is and how it perpetuates sexual apartheid in Australia.’ Read more
ACTOR GETS SET TO PROTEST ON AUGUST 1
PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - July 13, 2009
ABC Tele series actor Matt Young and his partner will join thousands
Around Australia for the National Day of Action for Same Sex Marriage on Saturday August 1st.
Matt will participate in the Sydney rally and march, starting at Town Hall at 12pm.
Matt was asked. Why do you support the right of same sex couples to marry and why will you be marching?
“We have two kids. Our children deserve the same respect as the children of any opposite sex couples that we know. We deserve to be allowed to be married. Let our children see their two dads wed.”
Ben Cooper, co-convenor of Community Action Against Homophobia stated “People such as Matt joining us on the day brings a face to the fight for same sex marriage equality. People such as Matt show the Labor government just how out of step they are with the majority of Australians”
