Abolish 'Homosexual Advance Defence' & Section 23, NSW Crimes Act
Press Release • December 15, 2008
Remove Laws that encourage homophobia and hate-crimes!
Community Action Against Homophobia (CAAH) disagrees with the recent decision by NSW Supreme Court Justice David Kirby to hand down a reduced charge to the teenager who perpetrated the hate-murder of Gerard Fleming at a toilet block in Narrabeen last year.
CAAH believes the killing of Gerard Fleming was a homophobic act, and the decision by Justice David Kirby shows we have a long way to go to remove bigotry in the justice system.

Welcome to the Sydney Beat Project
The Sydney Beat Project is an online resource and community network for beat users, which was initiated by beat users with the support of CAAH. The project is open to all beat users in NSW - whether you identify as gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, intersex or whatever!
The project was developed as a result of the increasing level of police harassment and threatening behaviour, intimidating questioning, and the use of unreasonable and disturbing police tactics, which actively targets men at 'known beats' across NSW.
Queer Refugees - Photos
Community Action Against Homophobia has been active in the campaign against the inhumane mandatory detention, which has been Australian government policy since 1992.
CAAH has fought hard against homophobic rulings by the Refugee Review Tribunal (RRT) around particular cases of queer refugees seeking asylum in Australia, and against the cruel mandatory detention policy that has locked up so many refugees. More photos

The CAAH Legal team is also designed to have information posted by people who only know a little bit about the law:
* Alerting the list to homophobic actions, vilification or discrimination in society
* Letting people know when you're making a complaint about homophobia to an organisation (i.e. Daily Telegraph)
* Requesting basic information on legal rights (i.e. Queer Rights Rallies)
